Youth Development Specialist

Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nations largest and most effective dropout prevention organization. For 40 years, Communities In Schools has been helping students achieve in school, graduate, and go on to bright futures. The XY-Zone Programis an innovative youth developmentprogram of Communities In Schools of Central Texas that supports and guides adolescent males as they journey through high school intoadulthood. The curriculum-based program, delivered in a group setting, works by developing a close relationship with a skilled caring adult, creating a community of accountability between young men, expanding horizons through enrichment experiences and exposure to college and career opportunities in Central Texas, and by creating leadership opportunities with the chance to give back to the community. Communities In Schools of Central Texas is looking for an XY-Zone Coordinator (Youth Development Specialist) to work on our high school campuses in Austin ISD. The XY-Zone Program Coordinator is a fully integrated memberof the campus-based service delivery teamresponsible for planning, coordinating, andfacilitating the XY-Zone program services to adolescent males. Occasional work on weekends and evenings is required for this position. Essential Functions.
Plan, coordinate and implement youth development programming to high-risk adolescent males on a designated campus.
Promote the XY-Zone program to appropriate target groups.
Create and maintain the XY-Zone culture on campus.
Facilitate XY-Zone curriculum-based groups.
Cultivate the process of students advancement through the XY-Zone steps of leadership.
Plan, coordinate and lead campus and community service-learning projects such as Live In Peace Week activities.
Provide assessments, referrals and case management services.
Provide individual supportive guidance as appropriate.
Prepare and submit regular and timely reports as required by funders, Program Manager or Sr. Program Coordinator.
Maintain a positive relationship with CIS staff, campus personnel, and community collaborators.
Participate in the CIS team approach to service delivery and problem solving.
Promote and maintain CIS culture, standards, and systems.


At least two years of professional experience working with teen males.
- Spanish bilingual ability is highly preferredXY-Zone Coordinators must have access to reliable transportation.

Computer Skills.
Demonstrate working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)Demonstrate electronic document work flow skillssuch as document creation, file saving, file copying, making duplicates or backup copies, file downloading file naming and locating files using windows explorer. Demonstrate ability to formulate appropriate questions to seek out technical support in a timely manner. Strategies to retain technical information as relevant to job function, such as the ability to recall technical instructions, policies and procedures. Ability to anticipate and respond to technical needs based upon work environment and changing staff needs at local offices, such as requesting more or different computer equipment, software or IT solutions. Reporting Structure: This position is supervised by the campus Program Manager.
