Job Description.
Acts as primary therapist providing a range of therapies, crisis intervention, and behavior management to achieve improvement of treatment goals and discharge dispositions. Caseload to include assessments, individual and group therapy clients. Adheres to Inova's Culture of Safety. Administrative Functions: Consults with Program/Counseling Manager regarding program policies, presents new program initiatives and ideas for improvement, and serves as a clinical lead on the treatment team. Clinical Lead: Serves as clinical leader for unit and consultant to the Program Manager or Director for the development of the treatment program. Compliance: Completes and monitors documentation in a timely, professional and informative manner. Participates in maintaining a Professional Culture in Inova Behavioral Health. Provide a range of therapeutic services, psycho-educational programming and behavioral interventions to assist the client in achieving progress towards the goals and objectives of the individualized service plan. Reports to Manager. Provides case management. Provides documentation and performs administrative functions appropriate to clinical role. Serves as a clinical leader on Program team. Job Responsibilities

Demonstrates knowledge of therapeutic theory and constructs when planning and providing individual, group, and/or family therapy. Initiates treatment planning, coordinates case management and referrals, while consulting with other professionals to provide quality patient care. Provides individual, group and family counseling to individuals diagnosed with co-occurring disorders. Provides crisis intervention and risk assessment as needed. Provides psycho education to assist patients to gain better understanding and acceptance of their diagnosis and the relapse/recovery process. Documents assessment, treatment planning and daily progress in the patient record to provide a permanent record of treatment. Discharges are clinically appropriate and documentation is completed in a timely manner. Ensures the provision of a physically and emotionally safe therapeutic environment. Demonstrates knowledge of licensing regulations and accrediting standards. Follows all Inova Health System/Inova Kellar Center/Inova CATS Program/Inova Behavioral Health policies, procedures, and practices and communicates all safety/security issues to leadership. For Kellar only: Implements effectively and consistently the principles of Inova Kellar Center's behavioral intervention program. Participates program develop meetings as requested and treatment team meetings weekly or daily as scheduled. Provides orientation and training to new staff. Participates in activities integral to the maintenance and continued development of Inova Behavioral Health Adult Ambulatory Services and assists with special projects as assigned. Provides discipline/program specific clinical expertise and recommendations to the Manager regarding patient/client issues and program development, as requested. Communicates appropriately and serves as primary liaison with members of the multidisciplinary team. Provides clinical supervision to interns, staff, and counseling residents. Documents appropriate assessment/reassessment of the patient/client and progress on the treatment goals. Completes daily progress notes, comprehensive integrated summaries, and discharge summaries for each patient assigned. Is knowledgeable of program standards and policy and is responsible for program compliance. Presents as a leader in clinical treatment team meetings and supports team compliance with program policies. May complete chart audits, reviews, and training to other staff, as requested. Communicates issues and concerns to the Program Manager. Provides clinical supervision to residents in counseling and interns working toward certification or licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Participates in maintaining a Professional Culture in Inova Behavioral Health. Serves actively on a committee as evidenced by committee attendance records and meeting notes. Participates in all staff and team meetings. Maintains licensure as required by job standards. Demonstrates evidence of a minimum of 20 continuing education units (CEU) of credit yearly. Meets annual state license requirement for continuing eduction units CEU's. Participates in professional educational and training opportunities to further develop professional competence and improve program effectiveness. Participates in development of curriculum and patient teaching materials, as evaluated by completion of assignments or projects. Assesses, collects, analyzes, and interprets data to determine treatment recommendations. Provides appropriate treatment recommendations and strategies in the provision of mental health and substance use disorder. Plans and implements developmentally appropriate therapeutic activities. Orients patient and family members to program, rules and schedules. Measured by patient compliance with program policies and group norms and response on patient satisfaction surveys. Facilitates and processes group interaction while setting and enforcing group boundaries, as evaluated by peer or supervisor observation and by patient feedback. Helps patient to problem-solve by giving specific assignments or meeting one-to-one with patient, as needed, evaluated by observation and by peer review of patient record documentation. Identifies and contains crisis situations by setting limits, and identifying and using appropriate resources, as evidenced by lack of negative outcomes. Is prepared for each scheduled lecture and ready on time, as evaluated by observation, patient feedback, and chart review. Teach patients to practice effective life coping skills, promotes experiential problem solving and reinforces learning and change through role modeling and counseling, as evidenced by direct observation and measured by patients' ability to maintain an improved level of functioning and/or abstinence from substance use. Coordinates care planning with external professionals and completes required certification of care by required deadlines, as evaluated by peer review of patient records and payment of claims. Demonstrates success in coordination of services with referral sources, physicians, outside therapist, staff members, schools, probation officers, and other professionals. Develops appropriate discharge/transition planning and ensures client and family understand recommendations. Completes and submits all attendance information required for timely billing on a consistent basis including all attendance documentation, charge sheets/entry. Completes and submits all timely UR requirements paperwork. Develops an integrated & discharge summary for assigned patients which should accurately summarize patient data from all available sources, as evaluated by ongoing review of patient records. Documents patients' identified problems, negotiates a treatment plan for each with the patient establishing realistic goals and objectives, all within established policy guidelines. Evaluated by peer review of patient records. Writes a clinical progress note for each treatment encounter. Charts significant material as evaluated by review of patient records. Participates in on-call rotation, when applicable. Develops an integrated & discharge summary for assigned patients which should accurately summarize patient data from all available sources, as evaluated by ongoing review of patient records. Provides clinical supervision to interns and unlicensed staff. Serves as Safety Huddle leader. Contributes to the center-wide integration of programs and services. Represents Inova Behavioral Health Program in marketing and community events. Serves as mentor to new staff Participates in development of clinical operation projects. Explore new or supplementary curriculum material that enhances patient/client understanding of mental health and wellness issues. Completes chart reviews and other documentation monitoring functions, including Utilization Review. Serves as team leader and Leadership substitute at the direction of the Manager. Minimum Requirement 5 years in addiction treatment/mental health treatment Master's Degree of PhD in mental health, social sciences, or behavioral health related field Eligible to provide Clincial supervision.
BLS within 3 months and CPI within 1 year of hire date.
