Senior Career Engagement Specialist

Job Duties 50%: Engineering Initiatives and Student Engagement Conduct career coaching for engineering students (BS, MS, and PhD) at BSOE through workshops and other experiences in ways that are engaging, culturally conscious, and effective.
Oversee, develop, and implement educational opportunities, networking events, industry panels, boutique recruiting forums, industry treks, and other programming initiatives for BSOE students through collaboration with alumni and other tech industry leaders. Monitor engineering student interests and engagement patterns, as well as workplace and industry trends in order to guide programmatic initiative with a lens for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Conduct strategic needs assessments of gaps in career programs and student skills, and utilizes technical experience, to develop and deliver a portfolio of complex programs and initiatives through SEEI designed to help engineering students and alumni discover and prepare for career pathways, articulate their career-ready and transferable skills, and build community that propels their career aspirations. Initiatives include, but are not limited to:
- Designing, implementing, and sustaining a multicultural career readiness leadership program for engineering student leaders; build the curriculum, develop the outreach and marketing plan, and implement the program.
- Researching, identifying and building an engineering alumni industry board; curate quarterly think tanks strategizing ways to support and connect students to alumni leaders.
- Collaborating with Development staff to identify and secure funding for a Recruiter in Residence Program. Develop and implement the program.
- Designing and implementing a technical interviewing program for engineering students.
- Developing targeted programs for engineering PhD and Master students helping them to explore both academic and non-academic career paths and provide guidance on salary negotiation and creating networks.
- Developing employment events specifically geared for engineering PhD and Masters students to connect with employers and alumni from various industry sectors who are seeking technical applicants or who can provide technical advice Collect and analyze participation, engagement, and outcome data in order to assure quality and improve student engagement; prepare quarterly and annual reports as requested and as helpful for BSOE and other identified university partners. Manages program improvement processes. 30%: Relationship Development and Strategic Planning Research, identify and connect with local, Silicon Valley, national and international employers and corporations to strengthen existing, build new, and cultivate strategic partnerships in order to bring experiential learning, internships, and full-time opportunities to engineering students Collaborate with Baskin's Development Staff to provide support and resources to keys employers looking to recruit engineering students Identify, implement, and manage technology systems, programs and resources that enhance and accelerate the networking and connections process for students, employers, and alumni, in tech industry areas. Bring technical experience and STEM industry knowledge to conversation with faculty and staff in order to enhance curriculum to ensure students are learning applicable skills to be successful in today's workforce Stay abreast of economic forecasts and STEM industry trends. In collaboration with the Career Success team, develop and implement an annual engagement strategic plan to support the following:
- Engagement with engineering/tech industry to increase employer participation within programs and recruiting efforts.
- Engagement with BSOE and two assigned colleges to deepen existing and cultivate new collaborative relationships with administrators, faculty, and staff and to identify opportunities for collaborative programming.

- Engagement with UCSC Engineering Alumni to strengthen existing and build new relationships in order to bring expert advice, mentorship, professional networks and employment opportunities to UCSC students. 15%: Curriculum and E-Learning Design Collaborates with BSOE faculty and SEEI in course design and development to incorporate the needs of employer partners and emerging fields in engineering. Design, create and maintain e-learning content (tutorials, asynchronous Canvas modules, worksheets/guides, blended learning toolkits, audio and video content, website/blog content, case studies, etc.) which transform career success topics into engaging instruction. Be the voice of the learner, ensuring that their needs are at the forefront of our content efforts and help our team iterate and improve on our content offerings. 5%: Continuous Benchmarking and University Representation Ensure continuous enhancements through local, regional, and national benchmarking with career coaching peers and robust industry networks.
Update position-related skills by participating in appropriate professional development offerings throughout the year.
Represent UCSC Career Success and BSOE through active involvement and leadership in regional and national associations.

Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Substantial experience in career services, development, technical recruiting, technical sales, engineering/tech or related field.
- Experience providing individualized support for career path planning to engineering or technically focused students or individuals.
- Advanced knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
- Advanced knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice; workshop and program design.
- Strong ability to build new and enhance existing relationships with constituents inside and outside of an organization.
- Strong ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs, problem identification, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills.
- Strong demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple, on-going programs and services.
- Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills.

- Advanced knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends.
