Sr Manager, Software Dev & Engineering

Job Summary.
Responsible for leading a team of Software Development Engineers in the planning and designing of software and web applications. Manages projects from design to testing, including new programs, enhancements and modifications. Collaborates with Quality Assurance team to conduct testing. Develops financial and operational objectives. Ensures operational plans are aligned with business objectives. Contributes to functional strategy development. Strong understanding of Object
- Oriented principles. Experience interfacing with RESTful APIs and RESTful Web Services. Experience developing, deploying, and monitoring systems at large scale. The X1 Guide Application is deployed across 15,000 virtual machines servicing more than 35M devices. We favor experience in multiple languages over expertise in single language. However, in this role, experience in multi-threaded Java, JavaScript, and Lightning are most likely to be helpful to the team. Experience building applications based on Microservices Architecture and deployed in containers (Docker, AWS Containers, etc.)Familiarity with continuous integration/deployment processes and tools such as Concourse, GitHub, and Jenkins.
UNIX/Linux background: proficiency with command command-line utilities; familiarity with system administration tools and concepts a plus. Experience with industry standard logging and monitoring tools, including Splunk and ELK.Strong experience working with different styles of Agile teams and align backlog items to program goals across multiple projects and teams. Experience developing in an agile environment. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with people at all levels of the organization in a highly collaborative and impactful manner. Superb written and oral communication skills involving both business and technical sides. Proven track record to execute both strategically and tactically, and eager to tackle new, ambiguous projects that will be industry-defining. A sense of ownership, initiative, and a love of learning!
Oversees the planning and designing of software and web applications, including new programs, enhancements and modifications. Provides guidance to the Software Engineering team and other departments in identifying product and technical requirements. Serves as primary point of contact and liaison between Software Engineering and other teams. Directs implementation initiatives for new software products and applications. Organizes software update process for existing applications and coordinates the roll-out of software releases. Manages all the deliverables to ensure adherence to deadlines, specifications and budgets. Implements performance metrics and prepares period reports and/or proposals. Monitors and tracks project progress and reports findings to leadership team. Ensures all engineers keep current with technological developments within the industry. Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products. Provides leadership and direction to department personnel from lower-level managers to non-exempt employees. Manages cross-project communications. Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance. Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
