(Even if this particular role isn't the right fit, chances are we will have the right one soon)About the role This is a unique opportunity to lead the legal team at a newly public, high-growth company, helping shape our approach to corporate governance, as well as regulatory and compliance issues. You'll partner with the executive leadership team as well as Finance, Product, Operations, and People Operations teams, and various business teams. This will be a true generalist role it will involve SEC/securities filings and compliance,commercial work, corporate work, regulatory work, product counseling, and litigation. You need not have direct experience in each of these areas in order to be considered. But you must be well-versed in the legal issues facing a newly public company with strong operational and technology components, and able to learn quickly and hit the ground running on day one. We are looking for someone collaborative, high-energy, and proactive who enjoys working flexibly in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. You must have excellent judgment and communication skills, an unwavering work ethic and the ability to work well under pressure. What you'll do (with the caveat that this will almost certainly change over time):Commercial work: Review, draft, negotiate, and update various commercial contracts.
Contract management, including improving processes for streamlined legal review of contracts.
Manage foreign qualifications and business licenses Stock admin / cap table management Partner with People Operations.
Assist in the execution of corporate financing and preparation of associated regulatory filings.
Litigation: Handle customer escalations, litigation, and arbitrations (both internally and with outside counsel, depending on scope) Manage document collection and retention.
Liaise with customer support team on customer issues and processes.
What we ask for: Active bar membership in at least one state 8-15 years practicing attorney in the US Transactional, litigation, and/or regulatory experience at a major or boutique law firm Prior in-house experience is strongly preferred but not required (bonus points for start-up experience / automotive industry experience)Track record of developing practical solutions to novel legal issues The soft skills you'll need: Judgment: Sound business judgment and the ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
Issue spotting, strategic thinking, problem solving: Spot legal issues and offer solutions to mitigate risk.
Resourcefulness: If you don't know the answer, know how to find it quickly and efficiently.
Multi-tasking: Organize, prioritize, and manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
