Job Description

The Assistant Director of Nursing/Nursing Professional Development is an integral member of Nursing Services Administration. He / She performs the functions of an educator, facilitator, change agent, leader, consultant and researcher in their area of expertise. Actively participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of orientation programs as well as develops and implements staff development and continuing education programs; under the supervision of the Director of Nursing or a designee. Responsibilities

Actively participate in the delivery of patient care includes and is not limited to: Applying the Nursing process to critically Ill patients.
Hemodynamic monitoring.
Insertion of invasive lines.
Managing multiple vasoactive drips,Mechanical ventilationEKG/rhythm strip interpretation.
Moderate sedation.
Post-surgical recovery and stabilization.
Responds to Rapid Response System and Cardiopulmonary arrest within the medical center.
Provide direct observation of the delivery of patient care /nursing practice to validate competencies.

Provide direct observation of the delivery of patient care /nursing practice to validate competencies.
Utilizes direct observation to validate the efficacy of educational offerings as well as evaluate nursing policy and procedures. Collaborates with the Clinical Nurse Leaders in planning and developing programs to improve patient care and employee performance. Actively participate in the completion of unit specific annual competencies in collaboration with unit nurse leader.
Periodically monitors employee's performance relative to patient care and nursing practice, e.g. compliance to policy/procedures relative to patient care assignments and the related documentation, narcotic count, code cart assessment sheet, medication administration and documentation, etc. Communicates patient care and service related problems on the tour to appropriate individualstimely. Assists in corrective actions/follow-up. Makes frequent, purposeful rounds with/without Nurse Managers of service to assess units. Collaborates with peers and Nurse Managers in developing mechanisms that improves continuous feedback relative to the current status of patient care/nursing practice issues in order to comply with hospital policy/procedure, regulatory agency mandates and standards. Qualifications

1. Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3), below.
2. Masters Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field and five years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity.
3. A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State. Department PreferencesCCRN Certification is highly recommended.
Knowledge of: Knowledge of CCRN, and Critical Care standards and recommended practices.
