Fun Assessment for Silent Sustained Reading

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”topfeed-summary-list”]

  • I had tried everything from the traditional book report style assessment to more creative movie trailers, but I didnt feel like they accomplished what I wanted from a silent sustained readingassessment.
  • I thought about what inspired me to read my book club books and the answer was that I really enjoyed that evening of food, conversation, and friends.
  • So, I decided to design a book club style chat assessment for our silent sustained reading.
  • Ive also included a link to a Google document with a detailed explanation of the assignment for any teacher interested in using it!
  • This book club style chat has become a favorite with my students.

9 Ways to Inspire Student Inventors

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”topfeed-summary-list”]

  • If we want our students to respond to challenges with creativity and inventiveness, we must create the conditions in which innovation is not only possible but encouraged.
  • But heres another challenge Ive found when asking students to create for genius hour.
  • Fear of failure is how starting any new challenge feels to me, but part of my vision statement for myself is that I will enjoy the excitement of challenge.
  • If youre not afraid of some of the things that your students are trying to donot related to their health or safety, of coursethen youre not really trying anything new.
  • In reality, kids should be able to close their eyes and envision all the pages that can be added in the next hundred years, or the whole chapters and sections of books that will be removed based on new discoveries.
