  • It was 20 years ago Saturday that the then Tampa Bay Devil Rays threw the first pitch in team history.
  • To mark the occasion, the team invited some of its original players back for 20th anniversary festivities.
  • Haven’t seen a lot of these guys in 18-20 years, so it’s good to reconnect with these guys and catch up.
  • It was just a great energy once the first pitch went out, said Suzanne Corte, who was there 20 years ago for the inaugural game and hasnt missed an Opening Day since.
  • The whole team erupted and the stadium has changed from being what we didn’t know what we’re gonna have, but now we have it.

  • If three hours in the rain Friday night at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium was any indication, the Gators’ best chance to rebound from last year’s 4-7 flop might be the former high school backup whose next pass in a college game will be his first.
  • The last coaching staff raved about Trask’s accuracy, which is why Jim McElwain offered a scholarship to an unheralded three-star recruit who was the No. 2 quarterback at his own school (Texas’ Manvel High).
  • Trask redshirted in 2016, then lost the quarterback competition to Franks last season.
  • Although Trask is built like a pro-style passer (6-foot-4, 238 pounds), he’s comfortable running, as Mullen’s quarterbacks typically do.
  • That means Franks’ experience might not help him much, especially with a different system one Trask seems to know a little about already.

Judge rules that cancer warning should be on coffee

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”topfeed-summary-list”]

  • The coffee in your cup right now could be giving you cancer and a California judge says there needs to be a warning label on your favorite java.
  • A small non-profit called The Council for Education and Research on Toxins is calling out the coffee industry for using it, saying coffee companies either need to remove the chemical or put a warning label on their products.
  • By law in California, a warning label is required for about 900 chemicals known to cause birth defects or cancer.
  • In 2016, the cancer agency of the World Health Organization moved coffee off its possible carcinogen list.
  • Studies indicate coffee is unlikely to cause breast, prostate or pancreatic cancer, and it seems to lower the risks for liver and uterine cancers, the agency said.

  • PENSACOLA, Fla. A package of contraband covered in grass clippings that was dropped by a drone at a Panhandle prison is one of the most recent examples of inmates using advanced technology to smuggle illegal items behind prison walls.
  • One of those drops was discovered at a Panhandle prison after correctional officers spotted the drone, which was delivering a cellphone and tobacco.
  • A drone incidents factsheet provided by the department says the drone was observed by a correctional officer, who saw it successfully deliver contraband inside of the prison.
  • Glady said drone usage is plaguing prisons across the nation, and most corrections departments are trying to keep up with new technology.
  • The department foresees some issues in investigating drone smuggling operations because it can be difficult to determine contraband was dropped by a drone unless correctional officers spot the device in action, she said.
