  • This book is about making machine learning models and their decisions interpretable.
  • Machine learning models are already used to choose the best advertisement for you, it filters out spam from your emails and it even assesses risk in the judicial system which ultimately can have consequences for your freedom.
  • Are there some oddities in the training data which the machine learning model dutifully picked up?
  • This books is recommended for machine learning practitioners, data scientists, statisticians and anyone else interested in making machine decisions more human.
  • I work on making machine learning interpretable.

Google wants to teach more people AI and machine learning with a free online course

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”topfeed-summary-list”]

  • Machine learning and AI are some of the biggest topics in the tech world right now, and Google is looking to make those fields more accessible to more people with its new Learn with Google AI website.
  • Google envisions the Learn with Google AI site serving as a repository for machine learning and AI, and its meant to be a hub for anyone looking to learn about core ML concepts, develop and hone your ML skills, and apply ML to real-world problems.
  • The site will apparently cater to all levels of AI enthusiasts – – The site also features a free course called Machine Learning Crash Course (MLCC).
  • The course itself is based off an internal Google course that was originally designed to help give Google employees a practical introduction to AI and machine learning fundamentals, with 18,000 employees already enrolled.
  • Now, Google is making MLCC available to everyone through the Learn with Google AI website, providing exercises, interactive visualizations, and instructional videos to help teach machine learning concepts.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Field Upended by Neural Networks

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=”topfeed-summary-list”]

  • On todays episode of The Interview with The Next Platform, we focus on how geographic information systems (GIS) is, as a field, being revolutionized by deep learning.
  • This stands to reason given the large volumes of satellite image data and robust deep learning frameworks that excel at image classification and analysisa volume issue that has been compounded by more satellites with ever-higher resolution output.
  • Using lower end TitanX GPUs from Nvidia, the team, which includes Sudeep Sarkar and Mauricio Pamplona Segunda that created a CNN approach to GIS land classification described here, it was shown that deep learning can be a successful tool in the box of GIS analysts.
  • Our two guests for this podcast interview include Dr. Sudeep Sarkar, a professor and chair of Computer Science and Engineering in the USF College of Engineering, and Associate Vice President for I-Corps at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
  • Dr. Mauricio Pamplona Segundo is a professor of the Department of Computer Science at the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil, since 2014 and is currently a postdoctoral scholar at the University of South Florida.
